leonberger General appearance:
Strong, muscular,yet an elegant dog.He is distinguished by his balanced and calm temperament.

Head:
On the whole deeper than long and elongated rather than stocky.Cheeks have not to be very developed . Head has to risult flat on the sides in order to appear longer rather than larger.Proportion of muzzle to skull region about 1 to 1. Nose has to be black. Lips have to be black too, never brown. Ears set on high and not far back, pendant, medium size, hanging cllose to head, fleshy. Eyes light brown to dark brown, medium size. Jaws/teeth: strong jaws with perfect, regular and complete scissor bit.

Neck:
Long rather than stocky without throatiness or dewlap.

Body:
longer than the height at the withers.

Chest:
Reaching at least to height of elbows.Not too barrel shaped, more oval. Back firm, straight board.

Legs:
Straight, parallel and not too close.

Tail:
Very well furnished, while standing, it hangs straight; in movement it is only slightly curved.

Coat:
Hair medium soft to coarse, profusely long, close fitting, never with a parting, letting the shape of the whole body be seen despite the thick undercoat.Straight, slight wave still permitted; forming a mane on neck and chest, specially in males. The collor is lion yellow, red reddishbrown, also sandy and all combinations between, always with black mask.Black hair tips are permitted; black must however not determine the dog's basic colour.Lack of mask is a disqualifying faults. A small white patch or stripe on chest and white hair on toes will be tolerated. Tail's colour is near dog's colour, bicoloured tails are admitted. Lightning up of basic colour on the underside of tail, the mane, feathering on front legs and breeches on hind legs must no be so pronounced as to interfere with the harmony of the main colour.

Height at withers:
maschi 76-78, femmine 70-72 centimetri. Dogs (male) 72 to 80 cm. Bitches 65 to 75 cm. Recommended average male 76 to 78 cm bitches 70 to 72 cm.
